Classic Italian countryside holidays in the heart of Abruzzo

Fab places to eat...

We all love Italian food. The fact is if you try the Italian food in Italy, you will struggle to find equivalent in your country. It just can not be fresher and tastier. Abruzzo is famous for arrosticini (sort of lamb kebabs on skewers), fish and seafood and beautiful fruit and veg.

IL PINO RESTAURANT

The one of the best local restaurant close to our house must be il Pino . It is only 15 minutes drive away and situated on top of the hill just outside of Lanciano. Ask for table outside (TAVOLA FUORI) and you will be able to view the Sangro Valley with its romantic olive groves. Food and service are excellent, try Corsaro (oven baked seafood pasta) or generous pot of freshest mussels. There is a big car park and children play area in the garden.  You can find the menu, location and full description following the link above

IL CAVALLUCCIO - THE BEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANT WITH PRIVATE BEACH AND TRABOCCO

When visiting Abruzzo house hunting we got lost and found this charming restaurant Il Cavalluccio  by accident! Needless to say, we have been back many times now. It is situated in a most picturesque position with its own private beach just couple of minutes drive away from Fossacesia.

There is a beach, bar and probably best seafood restaurant we have found in Abruzzo. Very popular, therefore booking is recommended.

The food is as fresh and delicious as only Italians can get it, the wine selection very good, setting and service above all expectations. It is fish restaurant, however, they do have some meat on the menu as well.

The prices are very reasonable, for two we pay around 40 euros for antipasto, seafood pasta, bottle of wine and coffees, generous sized portions. www.lidocavalluccio.it/indexenglish.htm

DAL GHIOTTONE PIZZERIA / TRATTORIA - FAB PIZZA

Dal Ghiottone (Piane d'Archi, follow Bomba's main old road through the village towards the sea, will be on the left hand side after about 10 minutes drive)

Very traditional red-and-white-tablecloth family run Italian trattoria also serving good pizzas straight from the proper oven in the open plan restaurant. Quick service, excellent pricing (e3.50 for a big fresh Margherita, anyone?) and friendly atmosphere. Booking recommended on week-ends.

If you miss a pint of Guinness or good cocktail you better visit the popular Green Shark pub in the same village with lots of parking and nice terrace area.

CASTELLO DI SEPTE - FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS, TREAT YOURSELF FOR A DINNER AT THE CASTLE!

For special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries) we would recommend Castello di Septe, which is the antique castle recently converted into four star hotel with good formal restaurant, swimming pool and impressive gardens.

FOR FRESHEST SEAFOOD LUNCH ABRUZZO STYLE HEAD STRAIGHT TO SAN VITO, E5 A PORTION.

There is a nice fish restaurant / pizzeria in Fossacesia Marina called La Sirinella; and lots of others really good ones in the area, we would mention Zappacosta restaurant and La Ghiottone pizzeria in Piane d'Archi (just 10 min away from Bomba, fresh Margherita Pizza @ e5), Antica Allegria in Lanciano and Airone in Bomba.

Typical antipasto platter, make sure you order it to share, otherwise you will not have space for main or pasta! Fried vegetables, cured abruzzo meat, shellfish and loads of fresh olives with some freshly baked bread!

Pasta in Abruzzo comes in all different shapes, sizes and every restaurant will offer you signature dish, keep an eye for specials!

Italian pizza is thin, simple and delicious!

You will see ice cream in many places along the beach, in most cafes and I am sure you will love it, it is so different to any other ice-cream. The most popular around is this one in San Vito Chietino, lot of choice.
